Visual Inspection Procedures:
Cylinder inspection is a vital safety component of the dive industry, along with hydrostatic testing and proper cylinder handling. It is one line of defense against cylinder explosions and fatal accidents, most of which occur during the filling process. So how do you determine if a cylinder is suitable for continued use? How do you help ensure your safety during the filling process, and your customers’ safety? During the Visual Inspection Procedures course, you will learn about several components of a scuba cylinder that must be evaluated by a trained inspector, including an evaluation of the interior and exterior of the cylinder, looking at any corrosion, pitting, dings, dents, defects, and other damage, and an assessment of the cylinder threads. The cylinder inspector must ensure that the cylinder conforms to DOT, CFR, and CGA standards.
The Visual Inspection Procedures course is designed for dive industry professionals such as divemasters, instructors, and dive shop employees. This course will allow you to perform cylinder inspections on your shop’s rental scuba cylinders and your customer’s personal scuba cylinders. You will also be able to train fill station operators in the safe methods of handling, transporting, and filling scuba cylinders.
